Views have been reset

While there was no bot filter, some messages got a lot of views from BaiduSpider (that is the most hectic bot in the world) and other bots and spiders. This way it all starts from scratch.

Uploader no longer drops files

A rather hard to track down bug in Twitizer Uploader has been fixed, that caused the attached file to sometimes be "forgotten" and hence not uploaded.

When the phone was rotated the app forgot the name of the file (that's Android for you), so it's now saved persistently between rotations and other state changes.

Download Twitizer Uploader 1.29 here.

Let's hunt some bugs!

Update regarding the second point:

  • Possibility to upload multiple files via the tweet field is temporarily deactivated, as it seems to cause problems with iOS7 and Safari but oddly not iOS6 (files seem empty). We'll leave this deactivated until we know how to make all devices support it.
  • Note that uploading multiple files works fine if you use e-mail, provided the total message is not too large for being transferred to Twitizer.

We've had some nasty and hard to track down problems with uploading videos lately.

Too long titles

We just discovered that the title of a video can only be up to 100 characters long, and YouTube simply refuses to handle a video if the title is too long. If it is longer than that it will now be cut before uploading, and the whole title will be put in the video description instead. That way information is retained and video uploads succeed.

Empty files

There remains a problem with uploading large files (it doesn't have to be a video, but probably is) via the tweet field. Files sometimes are not uploaded properly and become 0 in size, which obviously is not right and YouTube will again report an error if attempting upload. We will continue to look at this issue. It can be dependent on browser used, as this started to occur after multiple file uploading was introduced.

We'll keep you posted.

New features

Based on user requests (mostly), the following features have been added, improving the experience and decreasing the frustration, hopefully:
  • When deleting a message containing one or more videos, the message, the tweet and all videos will be permanently removed at the same time. That way there should no longer be problems with "duplicate video" warnings, unless you actually upload something that's already on YouTube. YouTube doesn't allow that.
  • More search bots and spiders are filtered out, hopefully providing more accurate view counts. To accommodate this long term, Twitizer stores the name (user agent) of all used browsers, so it's possible to add more filters over time.
  • You can now upload multiple files for the same message from twitizer.com. It remains to add the same functionality to Twitizer Uploader. Some day...
Please note:

  • When you upload very large pictures, e.g. GIFs, Twitter has a limit of 3MB for showing them in your Twitter stream. Twitizer is aware of this and doesn't upload such files to Twitter. The pictures will of course still be at twitizer.com.
  • Also note that when uploading videos, YouTube will convert them to a suitable viewing format, which takes time, so be patient when the video doesn't show up immediately.

Twitizer Uploader 1.23

Twitizer Uploader has been redesigned to look similar to the new design of twitizer.com.

It will also handle larger files, up to 200 MB, provided your phone/tablet has enough memory. That said, uploading 200 MB can take a very long time, and can make you hit the transfer limit of your plan, so we recommend you use Wi-Fi for larger files.

New design

Twitizer has been made a bit more modern with a new logo, flat icons and a more consistent color theme. We hope you like it.

Emojis!

Emojis are now supported on Twitizer.

If you use Chrome on your PC, you can install Chromoji to enable entering emojis there.

Video link in tweet

If you've uploaded at least one video, its YouTube link is now included in the tweet, so that the video shows up in your stream. This is supported at twitter.com etc, but not in e.g. TweetDeck.

Note that if you've posted both a video and a picture in the same message, only the picture will show. This is a limitation in Twitter, so in that case Twitizer skips the video link to maximize how much text can be shown in the status.

Note that the link to the message at Twitizer is always included, no matter what.

Picture now posted to Twitter

If there's at least one picture in the message sent via Twitizer, the first one will be added to the tweet and shows up at Twitter. The Twitizer link to the message is still sent with the tweet so that you can see the complete message there, as well as comment, rate etc.

Show map

It's now possible to control whether any map should be shown for a message when editing it:

For a map to show there also needs to be a location associated with the message, so this is a way to deactivate a map even if there's a location stored.

Note that you need to be logged in to be able to edit your messages.

Today's improvements

Shortcut to a user's timeline

If you enter http://twitizer.com/@name (where name is the name of a Twitter account; don't forget the "/") you are now taken to the timeline for that user. It's just a shortcut, but might simplify a bit, not the least sharing.

More and better links

Links, usernames (prepended by "@") and hashtags (prepended by "#") in messages will now all be converted to clickable links opening a new window (or tab).

Twitizer Uploader now fixed

Uploader ran into problems communicating with Twitter due to stricter requirements. This should be fixed now (tested on Android 4.1 and 4.4), but let us know if not.

Improvement of removing messages

When removing a message at Twitizer, it's now removed at Twitter too. Retweets of that status are removed as well. This is to avoid leaving stray statuses that link to nothing.

Twitter hiccup fixed

Due to a change in the Twitter API, logging in stopped working. That was quickly fixed though.

Twitter icon to status page

When you click on the Twitter icon when in a Twitizer message you are now taken to the same status at Twitter. That way you can retweet, favorite etc.
